If you’ve never been to Bethany, or any other church, you may be wondering what to expect. We’ve put together a few questions we think you might have as well as some answers that should help you when you visit.
- What is Bethany like?
- What can I expect as a visitor?
- What kind of clothing is acceptable?
- What do you have for my children?
- What activities do you you have during the week?
- Where is the church located?
- How can I find my way around the campus?
- What are your services like?
- What are your sermons like?
- What do you believe?
- What's with your name?
If you are new to Bethany there are a few things you need to know about us. First, we care about you and will accept you as you are. No matter what your past holds, we want you to feel welcome. You may have questions about God, church or Christians and we want to help you find answers. We are happy to have you with us! Second, we love Jesus. We love the change He has brought to our lives and the freedom, love and acceptance He has given us. We want to celebrate that with you, pass it on to you, and help you experience this same freedom, hope, love and power.
We like to think of ourselves as friendly people who demonstrate the love of Christ. Although we meet in a building, Bethany is not a location. It is a group of people who seek to live life together and build lasting relationships.
We want you to feel comfortable and at home with us. There should be information about us on the back of the seats in front of you during the Sunday morning services. You may also request this information by asking an usher before or after any of our services. Most of all, we want to help you get to know us.
You will find a wide range of attire at Bethany. Our senior pastor will usually be in a comfortable shirt and slacks, and occasionally a coat a tie on Sunday morning; but other pastoral staff frequently wear shorts and sandals to church. Most of the rest of us are somewhere in between. You won’t likely look out of place whatever you wear.

We have two Sunday morning worship services – at 9:00 and 10:30 am. These meet in the Worship Center lasting about 1 ¼ hours each. It typically begins with greeting and announcements followed by a brief time of “greeting those around you” where we all stand do just that. After a minute or two, our worship leader will begin leading us in about 15 – 20 minutes of worship through song. This is generally contemporary Christian music with occasional hymns accompanied by a band consisting of guitars, drums, piano and vocalists.
After the music an offering is taken. As our guest, please don’t feel that you have to contribute. Pastor Chuck will then give about a 35-40 minute sermon, sometimes on a biblical topic but usually studying a book of the Bible verse-by-verse with practical application. At the conclusion of the message we typically sing a closing song and are dismissed.
We call our Sunday evening service “The Summit.” It meets in the Fellowship Hall at 6:00 pm. We sing two or three opening worship songs before Pastor Chuck gives a 35-40 minute sermon, usually of a topical nature. Following the sermon we have a time of response with some more worship songs and are dismissed. This service usually does not meet in June or July.
