The mission of Bethany Christian Academy is to work together with the home and church to provide a Christ-centered environment that will nurture children spiritually, academically, and physically, so that we produce citizens that will be a transforming influence in this world. It is our desire that all of our students and their families will come to know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.

Veterans of Foreign War "Patriot's Pen" Essay Contest Winners PDF Print E-mail

Conducted nationwide, this Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) sponsored youth essay competition "Patriot's Pen" gives students an opportunity to write essays expressing their views on democracy with the prospect of winning U.S. savings bonds.  The Partriot's Pen is open to all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students enrolled in public, private or parochial schools in the U.S., its territories or its possessions.  Home-schooled students are also eligible.

The contest consists of four levels.  The first level (entry) is sponsored by local VFW Posts.  Post winners advance to the VFW District (regional) level where the one first-place winner is advanced to the VFW department (state) level.  The one first-place winner at the Department level is then advanced into the VFW National competition.  The winner from each Department (state) then competes for the national prizes.

BCA is proud to announce that we have two students who placed at the entry level at VFW Post #11549.  Joshua Sipilovic has received 1st Place and Cassie Chiang has received 3rd Place awards.  You can click on the links below to read their essays.  Their English teacher, Valerie Mitchell, had encouraged her students to enter this essay contest.  We wish Cassie and Joshua much luck at the next level of competition.  Congratulations!
